Aetna is a publicly traded company founded in 1850, and has more than 30 subsidiaries. Around 1850 there was an active volcano named Mt. Etna in Sicily, hence the name of the company. In 1996 Aetna merged with U.S. Healthcare and is now one of the largest providers of Arizona small business health insurance.
