Blue Cross® Blue Shield® of Arizona
Obtaining health insurance outside of the open enrollment period requires that an individual or family applicant qualify under one or more of the, “Qualifying Life Events,” issued by the federal government. Short term health insurance policies are available any time of year and cost approximately half that of an ACA policy. Please visit the banner links to the right for policy specifics, prices, and apply if you would like.
Group policyholders that lose coverage through their employer may apply for an individual or family policy within the qualifying event time frame, typically within 60 days. An applicant must apply for coverage within 60 days of the loss of coverage. You may also apply for health insurance coverage up to 60 days before losing coverage.
It is no longer necessary to answer medical questions when applying for ACA compliant Arizona health insurance.

Arizona Short Term Health Insurance
For most individuals a quality short term policy is an excellent alternative to individual ACA plans. For one, they are half the cost, and two, coverage is available from one month to three years at a time. Please visit the banner links to the right for specific details, pricing, and enrollment.
Short term policies, also referred to as temporary plans, are true health insurance, not discount plans that pay a certain dollar amount per medical procedure. Short term policies offer annual coverage up to $2 million typically, office visits, tele-medicine, and more. What they usually do not cover is preventive care, pre-existing conditions present within the last 5 years, and maternity, to name the top three exclusions. Arizona short term plans are unique in that very few states in the nation allow such policies to be sold that lock in coverage for up to 3 years! Most states limit short term plans to a few months, and several states don’t allow them at all, forcing applicants into very expensive ACA plans instead.
Of course, short term plans are not for everyone. Those with medical conditions such as cancer, diabetes, and certain heart conditions will be better served with an ACA policy.
