When approaching the age of 65 it is important to visit ssa.gov and set up a “My Social Security” account. You may enroll in Medicare Parts and B three months before your 65th birthday. Through your online account you may enroll in Medicare A and B during your initial enrollment period. If you plan to work past age 65 you likely will only be enrolling in Part A. When you decide to retire you will then enroll in Part B.
Once you have enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B you may then purchase an Arizona Medicare supplement plan and Part D prescription coverage.
It is highly recommended that you create your online Medicare account sooner rather than later, as problems may arise which may cause a delay in issuing a Medicare ID number. Problems such as Medicare having an incorrect date of birth on file or an incorrect place of birth on a marriage certificate can quickly derail progress. The sooner you create an account the sooner you will have the ability to review the information the federal government has on file for accuracy.
One helpful tip when creating your new Medicare online account is to not request the extra layer of security during login. Choosing the extra layer of security during your initial account set-up seems to delay things. First enroll in Medicare Parts A and B (or Part A if still working) then choose the extra layer of security for future logins.
