There are a number of reasons why someone should not consider purchasing an Arizona Short-Term health insurance policy.
Most of us have a pre-existing condition or two, and many of these medical conditions will not prevent the applicant from obtaining coverage. As an example, someone with high blood pressure or high cholesterol will likely qualify for a short-term policy so long as the condition is under control. But individuals with cancer, diabetes, obesity, heart disease, etc., will not qualify. It is important to remember that even if accepted for coverage no pre-existing condition will be covered if present within the last five years of policy issue.
Other medical conditions such as eating disorders or mental health disorders will also preclude an applicant from obtaining short-term health insurance coverage. Chronic conditions that require ongoing care, those advised to seek surgery or treatment, individuals that are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, and those seeking extensive preventive care services should not purchase a short-term health insurance policy.
Another requirement of note when it comes to Arizona short term health insurance plans is that the applicant must have lived in the USA for at least 12 months continuously at time of application. The applicant cannot have returned to their home country or another country during the 12-month period.
If you have any of the above medical conditions mentioned above, you should likely apply for an individual ACA plan or Medicaid if you qualify. You can find out if you qualify for either program through healthcare.gov. ACA plans are guaranteed issue which means the applicant cannot be denied based on health history. The downside of course is that ACA plans are at least double the cost of a short-term plan.
If you qualify for a substantial tax subsidy through the ACA you should buy an ACA plan which will offer much better coverage.
