The AMA represents about 30% of all doctors, a far cry from the majority, and they certainly don’t reflect the true feelings of most doctors. Yet they are the face of the physician community, and they are powerful.
So here we are again for the annual, “Doc Fix.” Congress has to pump billions into Medicare, https://higginscompanies.com/health-insurance/medicare-supplement/, each year to override a law that was to cut Medicare payments to doctors and hospitals by about 20%.
Who decides how much to pay doctors for services and surgeries? Is it some federal panel of doctors, Congress, who? It’s the AMA! This is why the AMA supported ObamaCare and the majority of physicians did not. To lose this kind of power and money would not be in their best interest, so supporting the new national health insurance plan was the only choice to make.
