Democrat: Don’t Save the Dying

A senate Democrat candidate says that it is a waste of money to extend the life of the dying for a few months. Mr. Ferre says that the government should move to universal health insurance and let the government decide how much to spend on certain procedures, basically deciding who lives and dies.

Having a death panel deciding your fate while on Medicare is of grave concern. To have several elected officials, armed with reams of figures showing the cost of keeping the dying alive for the last three months of their lives, deciding to cut off funding for the life extending procedures is something some are considering.

Many would agree with this train of thought. Why spend millions of dollars for a life filled with tubes, pain, and more pain? Imagine the monies that could be saved, the lower premiums for health insurance.

There’s only one problem with this train of thought, it’s the fact that someone else other than you is making these decisions. It is someone else deciding how much your life is worth, and it is the beginning of a very slippery slope.

There are many ways to control health insurance premiums, but cutting the funding of the dying isn’t one of them.
